Community Social Work: Wanted: Dead or Alive? - 5th Feb

January 13, 2016

  • Keith Moore-Milne

  • Friday 5th February 2016, from 1:30 to 4:30pm

  • Venue: The Barn, 37 Abbotsford Place, Glasgow

This event will describe the Community Social Work model used by Glasgow City Council Roma Children and Families Team mostly with Romanian and Slovakian citizens at risk.

The Glasgow City Council Roma CImage from Crossroadshildren and Families Team are using a community social work model in Govanhill to work with Roma children and families from central Europe - mostly Romanian and Slovakian citizens who are at risk. The team are using traditional casework and community social work in their day to day practice and they try to link `private troubles' and `public issues', actively attempting to influence the factors that lead to marginalisation. The team will present an overview of the issues for Roma in Europe, Scotland and Glasgow and they will present some case examples of ways that they are working to tackle poverty and social exclusion in Govanhill.
