Let's get growing - engage with Glasgow's food growing strategy
January 24, 2019
The Glasgow Food Growing Strategy is scheduled to be delivered by 2020. Eight workshops across 19 wards in Glasgow will be hosed between February and May 2019 to get an understanding of current food growing, to generate interest in food growing and to identify potential growing sites.
Part 9 of the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act came into force in April 2018. The main focus of this part is on how to meet demand for allotments, but it also places a new duty on local authorities to develop strategies showing where land is available for community projects to grow food. Opportunities are starting to come up across the country for community organisations to get involved in developing these strategies.
Three of the 8 workshops in Glasgow will highlight a specific theme in relation to community food growing as well as covering local issues – the themes are social enterprise, outdoor learning and health. Dates across Glasgow during February.
