Mary Barbour statue commemorative statue unveiled

A statue to commemorate prominent community activist, Mary Barbour is to be unveiled in Govan on International Women's Day.

The statue will be unveiled at Govan Cross, outside of Govan Subway station, on the 8th March 2018. Mary Barbour's community activism included organisaing working class families, especially women, to challenge the power of landlords and the state during the 1915 rent strike and led to the passing of one of Europe’s first rent restriction acts.
