Case Study - Highlands and Islands Enterprise
As part of its Social Impact Pledge, Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has committed to revising its volunteering policy. This case study shows how the organisation has already had a social impact through volunteering.
HIE's Caithness and Sutherland Area Team undertook a volunteering day at the Town and County Hospital in Wick on Monday 30th May 2016. The activity consisted of regenerating the land around the hospital in order to create a new 'memory' garden for the summer months following a local plea for volunteers to help.
The hospital has two wards: Harmsworkth, a 9 bedded assessment nit for patients with cognitive and memory problems covering Caithness; and Newton, a 10-bedded wing, 2 palliative care suites, 8 beds for frail elderly and young disabled.
HIE staff assisted with general maintenance, and also undertook painting and digging.
