Montrose Playhouse Project
The Montrose Playhouse Project was started in March 2013 when a local Architect, David Paton posted his plans for a cinema in an old, disused building on Facebook. After receiving encouraging online support from local community members, David set up a Working Group of interested local people to see how viable the project might be.
The Montrose Playhouse Project was born and has since grown from strength to strength with media coverage, awards, funding success, local authority support and ever more public support.
Set up as an official Scottish Charitable Incorporated Association in April 2014, the group's current choice of location is the old swimming pool in Montrose with Stage 2 of a Community Asset Transfer process with Angus Council already well underway.
The Board of Trustees and Members meet regularly to discuss progress and to delegate tasks in order to keep the momentum of the Project going. The aim is to benefit the whole community through an accessible cultural arts hub that enhances, develops and advances education in the arts.
