Seagrove Centre- North Edinburgh Dementia Care

NEDC Seagrove Centre is a registered charity, run by a voluntary Board of Directors

They provide person centred (outcome focused) day care and support for people living in the North Edinburgh area whose lives have been affected directly or indirectly by dementia.

They aim to support people with dementia to live in their own home for as long as possible, delaying or avoiding the need for residential care, while also providing support to carers.

The centre utilises a holistic approach to care, covering physical, emotional and practical needs. Their ethos is to provide a nurturing service which encourages their members to develop to their full potential by recognising individual needs and celebrating personal strength. Ongoing consultation also considers all aspects of health and wellbeing, as well as taking needs and desires into account.

NEDC offer a wide range of activities at the Seagrove Centre, as well as assistance with personal care. Each activity promotes an aspect of either physical, mental or emotional stimulation. These are proven to help people with dementia maintain their skills. Day trips and special events are also arranged throughout the year. There is an in house podiatrist and hairdresser who visit once a month and Specsavers carry out eye tests once a year. Transport to and from the centre is included, as well as a light breakfast on arrival and a two course lunch.

NEDC provides 3 services:

  • Day Care Service for people with dementia aged over 65
  • Young Onset Service
  • Carers service called 'Time for Carers
