Upper Eskdale Development Group - Dumfries & Galloway
The Upper Eskdale Development Group’s mission is ‘to make the area an even better place to live’. It was set up following the community’s response to the closure of the local school and a general reduction in public services and amenities in the area. The old school building belongs to the group and was one of the first asset transfers in Dumfries and Galloway.
The group is taking forward a business plan, which includes the development of a community hub containing a shop, café, meeting space, consulting room (with remote access to services), social activities, pop-up pub and bakery. This work, which involves the demolition of part of the school building, is being funded through recently awarded BIG Lottery funding.
